An Amazing Little Fruit:

Olives have been a staple food for a long, long, time. Resilient and drought resistant trees that give fruit for hundreds of years, it's no wonder why it has been so widely used throughout history. Especially, when you know about all of what it can give/do and its benefits to us.

It can be eaten in many ways, and thanks to its high content of umami flavour, it takes whatever dish you make up to the next level. Depending on its process method, it can last for many season, in storage, which was very important before modern refrigeration. But what this amazing little fruit can do goes way beyond your dinner plate and all the health benefits that brings.

If we went on about all the things that the olive can do, this post could turn into a book. So let's focus on the reasons, why olives are amazing in soaps. Or rather olive juice? Because yes, olive oil is basically an olive juice. It is the resulting product of pressing these little fruits and extracting the juice thereof. Here is why we use it in our Olive Feather soaps.

Let's talk about the benefits:

Olive oil is very moisturizing, which is important to help against losing too much of the skins natural moisture barrier in the process of your skin care routine. Though washing is important to remove impurities, depending on what you use it, it can also remove to much of your skin's natural oil. Many commercial products have much harsher components which destroy the skin's moisture barrier. In these cases, it will bring various issues depending on your skin type. Using olive oil as the main ingredient in your cleansers leaves feeling soft, clean, and with some hydration to balance things out.

Known for its gentle cleansing abilities, olive oil is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. If you are suffering from acne, olive juice is a great gentle cleanser. The antibacterial properties of this oil are widely known, and it has been used as a preserving agent in traditional canning/jarring of foods long before the commercialised canning industry. It will protect the skin from bacteria and cleanse the skin from impurities that we encounter in our environment on a daily basis.

As for the anti-inflammatory properties it contains (triterpenes), the dermatologist has told them to assist in the process of healing wounds by working to increase collagen production. Its healing properties also reduce the time it takes for wound closure. All of this is important when fighting acne or any skin small skin injuries.

As a bonus to softening the skin, olive oil also adds a bit of protection against the sun. It is a good addition to aloe gel, when seeking to heal sunburns. However, you shouldn't write off Halal sunscreen entirely with Olive oil, but it's always good to have multiple avenues that protect you from the suns harmful UV rays.

Olive oil has many important vitamins that help with your skin's overall health such as Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin K and Vitamin E. All of these vitamins really helps to promote collagen production, which is very important in the health of your skin and hair. Vitamin A is especially important in healthy looking skin as it is known to be able to assist greatly in cell regeneration, which is key to last lovely skin.

Rich in an antioxidant, it reduces the natural oxidizations we are exposed. Oxidative stress produces free radicals, a chemical that has been linked to the development of cancer cells. As stated above, olive oil also helps skin retain its beneficial moisture and prevents it from giving it away so quickly to dry and/or cold environments thanks to antioxidants. Along with the moisturizing benefits, the antioxidant can assist in reducing premature aging. Which nobody wants. Have you heard of Squalene? Olive oil is a rich source of the ingredient sought out by the beauty industry. Saving shark a certain kind of shark's and their livers from being sourced for Squalene. Olive oil has become a cruelty free alternative.
